IDrive is an online backup and cloud storage service for homes and small businesses.
I agree with Barry. IDrive for PC and Android works great, but this not an App for Chrome. It's pretty slow for even downloading large files from the cloud. Not sure how to back anything up from Chromebook. Since there is no "App", there's no way to back it up, even from the web portal.
I've had an iDrive account since 2012 and I like the service very much - from the Windows client that is. For an annual fee, I can do online backups of critical data that is encrypted with a key that only I know. (my choice - you can have iDrive generate a key which can be used in emergencies to retrieve your data). I always know that if my computer(s) are stolen or lost in a fire, that I have current off-site backups of the data I need to keep running my life. It's a big relief. That said, the downloaded and installed Windows client is a more powerful way to access iDrive because it supports scheduling of your backups to either the cloud, or to a local storage device on your home network or directly attached to the computer (via USB for example). iDrive permits me to backup multiple devices in my home, which is easy to do. You create a new folder for each device, then start dragging/dropping the folders and files you want backed up from that device. After the first time, when a complete copy of each file is being uploaded, the backups go pretty fast as only incremental changes are uploaded. I use this web client for backing up the limited local memory on our Chromebooks, but unfortunately, it is a more manual process than having the device automatically do it on a schedule. I'm hoping that iDrive can improve its beta app for Android so I can use that to schedule automatic backups of the limited amount of data that actually resides locally on my Chromebooks without having to select the entire device for backup. This chrome web-store "app" is really just a shortcut to the iDrive web site. It doesn't add value to just using your browser to go to iDrive.com to do your backups. So for that lack of added value, I give this "app" (non-app?) three stars. But the iDrive service itself has been very good for many years, particularly if you're using their Windows client software. (I can't comment on Mac support - I don't own any Apple products)
This app is a short cut to sign up.Make it go to sign in.
