The captions were not well related to the words. Giving the word in another phrase is not a very good picture association for low or new readers. If it says "funny" a winking smiley face is not associated with that word, as well as the phrase written "think big" is not a good picture association with the word "big". Picture cues are used to help non-readers or new readers associate with a word for understanding of the meaning to quickly recognize the word later. Hence the idea of sight words!
